What is International Harry Potter Day?

Alright, gather ’round, fellow wizards and witches because we’re about to dive into the magical world of Harry Potter International Day!

Picture this: it’s a day where Potterheads from every nook and cranny of the globe come together to celebrate all things Harry Potter. We’re talking about wand-waving, Butterbeer-sipping, spell-casting extravaganza! Here at Quizzic Alley, we’re celebrating by indulging in our very own butterscotchy concoction, QBrew.. and with our CLEAR THE CASTLE SALE which starts TODAY!

Now, how did this wizarding wonder come to be? Well, let’s rewind the Time-Turner back to the early 2000s. The Harry Potter series had already enchanted millions of hearts worldwide, with fans donning Hogwarts robes and debating over which house they belonged to. Fans began to mark and celebrate significant dates on the Harry Potter calendar, like the Battle of Hogwarts and Harry’s triumph over Voldemort in the second Wizarding War on 2nd May.

And then an idea was seeded, probably in a place not unlike Quizzic Alley: Why not designate this day to honour the magical universe created by J.K. Rowling? And thus, International Harry Potter Day was born! At least, we think that is how it went down. There is still some who claim International Harry Potter Day is celebrated on the young wizard’s birthday, 31st July but we’re thinking that celebrating it on the anniversary of the battle heps us all deal better with the terrible losses.

Is it an officially recognised international holiday? We can find no evidence of that although the then Prime Minister of Great Britain, David Cameron, declared it so in 2012 although we can’t find any real evidence of THAT either! Who does one talk to about such Muggle rules?

Official or not, it doesn;t change the fact that fans like you and us all over the world will honour and celebrate this day and reflect on the impact the series has had on all our lives. For many, Harry Potter isn’t just a story; it’s a source of comfort, inspiration, and belonging. It’s a reminder that, no matter how dark times may seem, there’s always magic to be found if you know where to look.

Happy International Harry Potter Day from all of us here at Quizzic Alley!
